I earned an undergraduate degree in philosophy and psychology from Tufts University in 1980, interned at the University of North Carolina Medical Center in 1982 and received a doctorate in clinical psychology from Washington University in St. Louis in 1985. I have extensive post-doctoral training in intensive supportive psychodynamic psychotherapy and have been in private practice providing psychotherapy and psychological evaluations to the St. Louis community since 1989.
In addition to my general clinical psychology practice, I have developed a specialty in child abuse and neglect offering supportive psychotherapy to children, adolescents and adults who have suffered child maltreatment, from mild to severe. Maltreatment may take the form of emotional abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, or neglect. Persons who have been hurt in these ways suffer a wide range of painful emotional, behavioral, interpersonal and physical symptoms throughout their lives. In many cases these symptoms can be substantially relieved with supportive psychotherapy.
I have particular expertise and experience assessing and treating persons who have suffered significant loss and trauma. These painful experiences include child maltreatment, high-conflict divorce, domestic violence, family dysfunction, death, illness, unemployment, poverty, crime, and natural and man-made disasters of all kinds including of course our current pandemic.
For much of my career I was frequent expert witness in the Missouri family, civil and criminal courts, an experienced speaker, teacher, clinical supervisor and consultant, and an active member of the American and St. Louis Psychological Associations.
Fees for individual, couples and family psychotherapy, speaking, consulting and clinical supervision vary. I am a Medicare provider and an out of network provider for most insurance companies.
Hours are by appointment, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.
